Rania Al Mahdy is one of the leading Clinical Neurophysiologists in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. She is the first clinical neurophysiologist to specialize in intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) in Egypt. Dr. Al Mahdy graduated from Cairo University School of Medicine, where she also spent her internship in the Clinical Neurophysiology Department.
Upon her graduation she worked in Al Qasr Al Aini, the hospital affiliated with the School of Medicine at Cairo University, until 2008. During that stint she gained her Master’s degree in Clinical Neurophysiology, along with hands on experience in IONM while working alongside prominent neurosurgeons.
She also cultivated her clinical experience by coupling her IONM work with attending to patients in multiple clinics.
In 2012 Dr. Al Mahdy registered a medical doctorate (MD) dissertation related to IONM and earned her MD in Clinical Neurophysiology. She has published papers about IONM in international journals. During the same year, she published a paper in the International Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences. In 2019 she published a paper in the Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology.
Since 2012 she has become an integral member of several surgical teams, led by Egyptian and foreign surgeons, primarily in Cairo and Alexandria. She has also monitored surgeries in Damanhour, Tanta, Fayoum and Mansoura among other Egyptian cities.
Between 2014 and 2016 Dr. Al Mahdy worked as an IONM consultant for one of the leading medical brands in the Middle East. In late 2016, she decided to own a portable IONM machine and she has been working independently ever since. She decided to establish MedSafe to harness the exponentially increasing demand for her services.
Mohamed El Garhy utilizes his multi-disciplinary background to devise and implement business plans for established and startup companies. He graduated from the American University in Cairo (AUC) with two Bachelor degrees in Political Science and Communications in 2009. He earned a Master's in Community Psychology, how to mobilze individuals and communities to bring about social change, from AUC in 2012.
El Garhy believes that high quality health care is the foundation upon which individuals and communities flourish. He aspires to make Egypt the destination of choice for premimum healthcare services in Africa and the Middle East. He passionately believes that MedSafe is the ideal launch pad to make his aspiration a reality.
Radwa Azmy earned her Medical Doctorate from Cairo University’s School of Medicine in 2009. She is a Professor of Clinical Neurophysiology there. She has been working in the clinical neurophysiology unit at Al Qasr Al Aini, the hospital affiliated with the School of Medicine at Cairo University, as well as other clinics since 2004. Al Qasr Al Aini is the oldest educational hospital in Africa and the Middle East.

Her doctoral dissertation was about conducting duplex for the posterior circulation of the brain. At the time this topic was at the forefront of research in clinical neurophysiology. That willingness to broach new frontiers allowed her to continually expand and hone her array of professional skills. She reaffirmed that willingness once again when she acquired IONM skills after joining MedSafe. A skill set she has mastered.
Dr. Azmy nurtured her analytical skills through the wealth of clinical experience she accumulated throughout her career. Her patience, dedication and systematic thinking which lends itself to her holistic approach to problem solving make her a pivotal member of MedSafe’s team. Her determination makes her an invaluable asset to the team currently offering intraoperative services. Moreover, her clinical background makes her one of the pillars who will help shape MedSafe’s future endeavors.
